Ciego de Ávila. Capital of the Ciego de Ávila province. On our way to Camagüey we stop here for lunch, not in the city center but to the northwest at Parque de la Ciudad. A park built on what had been a wasteland. With modern art and a few restaurants one of which is an old Aerocaribbean aircraft converted into a restaurant.
We chose the restaurant floating on the artificial lake. It is cool on the shaded deck outside. Only ordering something to eat does not go smoothly. The menu is Spanish only with prices in Cuban pesos. We try our utmost, but only irritate the waitress who has no intention to speaking any slower or be of any help explaining things. We took a quick look at menus at one or 2 other restaurants and gave up, reverting to our usual sultana bars! Back at the parking lot we spot a cart selling drinks and another selling something edible in plastic glasses. Deep friend maze cakes which we get to try for free. Not tasting badly we decide to have a lunch of Cuban coke and maize cakes. The young guys around the cart are friendly and helpful and we realize that what we first thought is rather expensive - 1 CUC for a plastic glass with a few chunks - they are actually trying to tell as that you get 5 glasses for just 1 CUC! Paying 1 CUC we left with 4 glasses and had a quite enjoyable meal in the car!
