Sancti Spíritus. A smaller and much quieter version of Trinidad. City of the guayabera (pleated buttoned) shirt, the guayaba (guava) and bridge with 3 arches! An English looking bridge. But it has been restored recently and now, well...... does not look quite old enough. Not like it had been built in 1815 by the Spanish! A crossing for traffic over Río Yayabo.
We strolled over the cobbled, and some of the city's oldest, streets.
On our way to the city square we walk past the blue an brick colored Iglesia Parroquial Mayor del Espíritu Santo which is said to be the oldest church in Cuba.
And then on to Parque Serafín Sánchez, surrounded by beautiful old colonial buildings.
Before continuing our journey east to Ciego de Ávila we stop for a cup of coffee on the terrace of Hotel Plaza from where we gaze at the little that is going on on the square on this hot Thursday morning.
